Kindle Fire hacked to run a pre-alpha version of Ice Cream Sandwich

If you own a Kindle Fire and actually bought it hoping that one day you will able to run a custom ROM of a decent version of Android, you are at luck now. XDA developers have come up with one custom ROM based on a “pre-alpha” version of Ice Cream Sandwich, or Android 4.0, which is the latest version of the Android operating system available.

Sony tablets to get Ice Cream Sandwich pretty soon

Sony was a bit late to enter the tablet market, and the company’s tablets don’t offer really a different or a better deal compared to its competitors. Also, the tablets are priced higher than its competitor, just like the VAIO laptops. So obviously, very less people buy the Sony tablets. But if these few people are tech savvy, they would not be willing to buy a Sony Tablet S or Tablet P if these tablets are not getting the Android 4.0, or Ice Cream Sandwich, update.

Amazon recently released a new OS update for the company’s tablet, the Amazon Kindle Fire. The update version 6.2.1 was specifically released to block the vulnerability that a root tool recently used to give users of the Kindle Fire root access. But the blockage has already been bypassed by a new root tool.

Motorola Xoom gets unofficial Ice Cream Sandwich

The Motorola Xoom was the first ever tablet to get the Android 3.0, or Honeycomb. And now its looks like it is going to be the first tablet to get Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich, as well, official or unofficial. The developer, or hackers as many call them, over at XDA have been able to port the ICS ROM to a Motorola Xoom.

Toshiba releases WT301/D Windows 7 tablet in Japan

With all the Android tablet floods in all over the world, you would have forgotten that there are Windows tablets as well. And Toshiba is here to remind you of the same. The Japanese company has released a Windows 7 tablet in Japan, pictured above. The WT301/D Windows 7 tablet has a 10.1 inch touch screen as the display, a 64 GB SSD hard disk, an Atom processor, and Windows 7 Professional as the operating system.

Dingleberry updated to root PlayBook again after RIM’s patch

A few days back, we saw the new Dingleberry tool to root your PlayBook, which worked really nicely as you got full Superuser access and you were able to get full access of the Android Market. You were also able to install .APK files directly without having to convert them to .BAR files. But unfortunately, just yesterday, RIM issued an over the air (OTA) update for the PlayBook which removed this hack and brought your PlayBook back to the stock state.

BlackBerry PlayBook update patches Dingleberry root

Just a few days back, we saw the Dingleberry root for PlayBook being able to get superuser access into the PlayBook and being able to install Android apps. But now, quite naturally, BlackBerry has blocked the very exploit that the Dingleberry root was using to hack into the core of the PlayBook OS.
