FB Explorer, a Facebook gadget for Windows 7
You all will be knowing what gadgets are. You all will be using it too. And I’m pretty much sure you are all on Facebook. Right? So how would it be if you have a Facebook gadget on your desktop? Well, here is one very good gadget, FB Explorer. The gadget is really good. I’ve been using this for a couple of days now and I’ve logged onto Facebook from a browser less frequently.
To log in to your Facebook account from this gadget, just click on the Connect button on the gadget. This will open up a page in your Browser where Facebook asks if you want to grant access to the gadget to access your profile data. Click on Allow. Then click on the Next button on the gadget. You are done.
The gadget’s user interface is really simple. There is nothing much it, so nothing much to confuse you. Everything is straight forward. The ‘Friends’ list updates the news feeds of your friends after a predefined time interval. If you go to the settings of the gadget, you can change this predefined time interval. If you set it for five minutes, the timeline will be updated after every five minutes.
There are two themes available for the gadget in the package. I dont know if there are other downloadable themes available for it, haven’t tried it. But the stock themes are more than enough. These are the Facebook (Default) and Monochrome Dark. I personally like the default theme. It gives you the original Facebook theme. But for a few of my friends, the Dark theme became a favorite.
Coming to the news feeds, the updates are regular, as I already mentioned. You will get all kinds of updates, may it be just a text, a link, a photo or a video. Clicking on the update will expand the update, but the expansion only includes a bit more info about the update. You can view the full size picture in it or watch a video. If you click on the expanded picture or video, it will open up the Facebook site in your browser. You can like and comment on a post when you expand it.
The ‘Me’ tab, found at the bottom of the gadget, will give you all your alerts, like friend requests, notifications, messages, pokes and others. Clicking on them will again take you to the Facebook site. You can change your status or clear the current status using the ‘Change’ and ‘Clear’ buttons at the top of the gadget in the ‘Me’ tab. This will be immediately reflected on your profile. Good job here.
The options window of the gadget will give you options to check for updates, or get more gadgets from the same developer or log out of your account. If you switch to the Options tab here, you will all the customization options you will need to use the gadget. This section is very easy, you will figure it out yourself. You can download FB Explorer for your Windows Vista/7 from here.
