Download your Information from Facebook, Part 2
If you have missed the first part, here it is.
In my previous post about this, I showed you guys how to get all your information on Facebook in a zip file to download. Facebook does not allow you to download the details immediately, because it needs to collect all the information and then prepare the .zip file. So what it does is, it will tell you that the process of information collection has started and you can continue with your work. Once the download is ready, you will receive an email with further instructions.
This is where I has left off in the first part. A few minutes after that, I received the email from Facebook which read that my information is ready for download. The email also had a link which I should follow to download the .zip file. So when you get this kind of email, just click on the link.
It will take you to your Facebook account where you can download the file. I had already mentioned that there will be authentication again, and there indeed was. Facebook will again ask for your password. Type in the password in the space provided and hit the Continue button.
Next, you will get the download page where you have the Download button. This page also shows how much the .zip file weighs. Mine was surprisingly 17 MB. I was thinking it will be in 100s of MBs. Almost two years of information was packed in just a 17 MB file. Anyway, hit the Download button to download the file.
In the zip file, you will get a folder with your username on Facebook. You better extract this folder for proper use. Now, you will have four items in the folder as shown in the figure. If you go to the photos folder, you will have all the photos you have uploaded onto Facebook, each and every photo. This is kinda good.
You will find a index.html file as well. This is the offline version of your online Facebook profile. Extract the parent folder first and open this html file. You will be amazed at what you will see. You will get the whole profile of yours in the offline mode. You can browse photos and other things, very easily.
So, here you are with all the information you ever put on Facebook. You can now use this for anything you want. You can either keep it as you offline Facebook or import it into other social networking sites which support. Play with it.
