Motorola’s new Droid Pro
Motorola has recently announced its next big thing, the Motorola Droid Pro. As the name clearly indicates, its a phone for business people. You have a full QWERTY keypad on the phone, not a slide out keypad, but a in a regular candy bar form factor. It houses a big 3.1″ multi-touch screen above the keypad. Hence, its a very big phone, which makes it so much better. People who find it difficult to use the on screen keypad of the Android OS can now use the physical keypad, especially those who are in a hurry to take down something on their phone.
Engadget says that it got a chance to speak to the rep from Motorola and it says the specs of the phone. The phone runs on a 1GHz OMAP 3620, with an MDM6600 chipset. The phone is world phone, this means you can use it anywhere in the world, works on GSM technology. It has 512 MB of RAM and 2 GB built in storage. This can be extended by a microSD card. It also has 802.11n 2.4GHz WIFI, Bluetooth 2.1 and tri-band UMTS.
The phone is a portrait QWERTY phone. The left side of the phone has a volume rocker switch and a microUSB port. The bottom has nothing. The right side of the phone has a programmable key, meaning you can make this key do whatever you want it to do, in a given list of tasks. The first time you press the key, it will ask you want to do. The top of the phone has the audio port and the on/off switch. The back panel houses the autofocus camera and dual LED flash. The speaker is also present on the rear of the phone.
Motorola Droid Pro runs the latest Android 2.2, or Froyo OS. The phone offers the 3G Mobile Hot Spot feature. This means you can make your phone work as a Wi-Fi hotspot and connect up to five Wi-Fi enable devices to it. An extended 1860 mAh battery and case are optional. A desktop dock which holds the phone vertically is also included. Though the phone has no complete Blur UI in it, it supports the push functionality of the Blur. Full device encryption in Q1 2011 is supported along with SD card remote wipe. One more interested thing is that it is said to have spell check integrated into the OS.
