iPhone 4S without camera in Singapore

This surely comes as a shock to most readers, and I’m sure Singapore-based iPhone lovers are going to just hate this. But this is the rumor on the blogosphere today. The iPhone 4S will be made available in Singapore in the very near future, but with a very big compromise. According to reports, the latest and the greatest yet iPhone, the iPhone 4S, will be stripped down of both the rear and the front-facing cameras and then released in Singapore.

This news comes from Jakarta Globe, which also said that a small wireless carrier in Singapore had already published a page on its website giving away details of the new iPhone 4S which it is supposed to release in a few weeks’ time. The page has now been taken down. But according to the report, the page had an image of a 64GB iPhone 4S which lacked both the cameras on the smartphone and showed off a price tag of $900 (is that USD by any chance?).

It is being said that these phones are for people who are in defense forces, who are not allowed to take phones with cameras to camps and other places which are considered secret. But that doesn’t mean that they should be denied of using awesome smartpones such as the iPhone 4S. So the simple solution is to minus the cameras on the smartphones and sell them.

Currently, Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) servicemen are allowed to take only no-camera smartphones into camp. Because of this, many own two phones – one for use in the camp and another outside.Those with no-camera smartphones are able to tap into the Wi-Fi networks, now covering more camps, to surf the Internet.

It is also being said that some small businesses in the country are already offering services to remove cameras from smartphones. This will of course void your warranty, and you will have to pay an extra $200 for this, on top of the bill for your smartphone, which in itself will be huge.
