Apps by Logastrod in Android Market

Google’s poor regulation and monitoring of the apps that go into the Android Market has caused another issue for users.  This is not the first time we are hearing about security breaches in app that we install on our Android phones and tablets. The new one that has made the news in a premium rate SMS Trojan, which along with compromising the private data on our Android devices also makes us lose money. This Trojan sends premium rate SMS from  your Android phone thereby costing you.

Submitted by a developer who goes by the name of “Lagostrod”, these apps present themselves as the free versions of popular games such as Angry Birds and Cut The Rope. It is sad that most Android users don’t yet know that Angry Birds is already free for Android. If you are downloading Angry Birds, download only if the developer name is “Rovio”, which is the original Angry Birds game.

However, Google has now removed this Trojan from the Android Market now. Another developer,  “Miriada Production” , has been known to have done something like the same. But the apps from this developer have also been removed from the Android Market already. But to be safe, keep these names in mind and check them when you download a new app or game from the Android Market.

The premium rate SMS Trojan has already affected a lot of people and has spread to about 18 countries including the UK. If you want extra security for your Android phone or tablet, you can install security apps which will protect your device from malware, viruses, and other funny malicious apps. You can try apps such as Lookout Mobile Security and Bitdefender Mobile Security to keep your Android device safe from such malicious apps.

Third party Android app sites such as AppBrain still have apps from these developers. So, it is advised that you download apps only from trusted sources such as Android Market. But reading this very story, can you really rely on Google as well to free Android Market from such apps completely? Well, its anybody’s guess. And F-Secure has listed a few such apps on AppBrain, which is shown in the image below.
