Don’t you just love leaks? Today we’ve got the latest information on Sony’s upcoming product lineup, with the addition of two new handsets to its 2012 offerings.

Sony Xperia Nypon

The Xperia Nypon is a fairly large phone with a 4” qHD Reality Display (running at 960 x 540). It also comes with a 8 megapixel camera that can record 1080p video. The chipset used is the NovaThor U8500, a dual-core ARM A9 platform that is expected to run at 1 GHz. The phone will come with Ice Cream Sandwich, and probably will cost around $360*. The Nypon should be released worldwide in April.

Sony Xperia Kumquat

The Kumquat is the smaller of the two phones, although it’s based on the same NovaThor U8500 chipset. It’s got a 3.5” FWVGA Reality display (running at 854 x 480) and a 5 megapixel camera that’s only capable of 720p video recording. The phone will likewise be armed with our favourite cold and creamy snack. Like the Nypon, it’ll be available in April but will cost around $250*, making it a fair bit cheaper than its bigger brother.

*These price estimates are based on a leaked roadmap from Sony’s Indian outpost. Prices are calculated by converting from Indian Rupees to US Dollars, then multiplying by 75% to account for the higher relative cost of mobiles in India.

It’s definitely interesting stuff. 2012 is looking like a great year for Sony, with the shedding of its Ericsson name coming with a renewed focus on some really stylish and powerful mobiles. Whether that’ll be enough to hold off Android rivals HTC and Samsung it’ll be hard to tell, but its continued innovation should at least guarantee it a top three finish.
