iPod Classic

Earlier this week, we saw a rumor that said Apple may soon stop iPod Classic and iPod Shuffle to improve the sales of the iPod Touch. Now, that rumor seems to be correct as Apple has removed click-wheel based games from the iTunes Store. Click-wheel was found only on the iPod Classic, and removing games and apps for the hardware type could only mean that the hardware type is going to be extinct soon.

Apple has an event in three days on October 4th, when it is expected to announce the much expected iPhone 5 and iOS 5 as well. The company may announce the end of the iPod Classic era. There have been rumors that there may be a 3G iPod Touch in the future. Apple may be discontinuing the iPod Touch and iPod Classic in this direction.

It seems that the “product transition” Apple mentioned on the last earnings call could very well be within the iPod line. Specifically, if you want to buy an iPod shuffle or iPod classic from Apple, you should do it sooner rather than later. We’ve heard those two iPods are getting the axe this year.

Do you own an iPod Classic or an iPod Shuffle? If so, how do you feel about the fact that your device is at its end now?
