A few days back, we saw a leaked image of a 7 inch Motorola Xoom tablet. Now, there is a new news. The Next Web says that there is a new second gen 10.1 inch Xoom tablet. TNW also says that its source at Motorola has leaked this news along with some specs of the tablet.
According to the source, the Motorola Xoom 2 will have a 10.1 inch display, will be 9mm thick (or thin, giving the iPad 2 a very, very good competition), the tablet will have a dual-core 1.2 GHz processor and something called a “faster” RAM of 1GB. The best part is, it records 1080p video. All this will drain the batter like anything, you think? Apparently, the Xoom 2 has better battery backup than any other tablet with a 11 hours, more than the first gen Xoom and the iPad 2, both of which has 10 hours.
Unlike the Smart Cover of the iPad 2, Motorola is planning on a keyboard case, according to the source again. This will come along with the stylus. But it seems this is not yet confirmed.
On the software front, the Xoom 2 seems to be pretty pumped up. The tablet is said to be shipping with Adobe Flash Player 11. If it does, the Xoom 2 will be the first tablet to do so. And since it has a HD display, you will obviously be tempted to watch HD videos on it, and also HD movies. So the tablet comes with Netflix HD for you. Also, Motorola is said to be working on some kind of wireless sync software for your PC. This way, you can wirelessly sync all data on your PC to your tablet. It is also said that the tablet will have some kind of IR blaster so that it could act as a home automation system for your home.
If you dint notice the title of this post, there is a mention of one more tablet, the Xoom 2 Media Edition. As the name says, this will more likely be an entertainment device. Well, it looks like it is to some extent. According to the rumors, the Xoom 2 Media Edition will have a smaller 8.2 inch HD IPS display with an anti-glare coating. The tablet will weigh 0.95 pounds, and it is said that the company will stress more on the fact that this tablet can be held in one hand, hinting a more ereader appeal to it. TNW says:
The chassis itself is made of a combination of magnesium and aluminum, has a Gorilla Glass display, and is apparently “splash” proof.
This tablet is also supposed to have an IR blaster for it to work as a universal remote controller for all your electrical stuff. And along with this, the tablet has a built-in woofer on its chassis, making it a complete entertainment tablet. Also, both these tablets are said to be running the Honeycomb version of Android, if it wasn’t obvious by now. Engadget has got the image of the Xoom 2 Media Edition, which is codenamed “Fleming,” as seen in the image.
